Samantha Dang: From survival to Law and Cultural storytelling in Music

The former lawyer and award-winning law professor, and now a music producer, co-writer, and entertainment executive, Samantha has come a long way.

A few people go through many things and eventually grow through those challenges, carving their unique niche in their chosen sectors. Samantha Dang’s success story is all about this and more. Her journey began with survival itself, and hence her worldview was forged long before career decisions entered the picture, rooted in displacement, courage, belief, and an early confrontation with injustice.

As a child, Samantha Dang escaped Vietnam with her mother on a small fishing boat, fleeing a war they didn’t choose. Their journey easily could have ended at sea, as it did for countless others. Instead, it became the first defining chapter of a life shaped by resilience rather than circumstance. Samantha then resettled in the US with the support of Quaker sponsors and grew up in Salem, Oregon, in public housing. Labour defined her childhood and adolescence, where she would pick strawberries and work in canneries, which also made her experience workplace exploitation and discrimination first-hand. Bullying and marginalization were her lived realities. However, she turned to education as a form of preparation and protection.

Law, in particular, offered her structure, language, and leverage. After working multiple jobs to fund her education, Dang practiced law in Oregon for more than a decade. In 2013, she relocated to California to teach at Irvine College of Law, bringing with her a practitioner’s perspective rooted in accountability and real-world consequence. Teaching law helped her sharpen her analytical rigour and made her understand the importance of clarity, ethics, and responsibility, values that enabled her to translate seamlessly into creative leadership. In 2014, she was named Professor of the Year, becoming an award-winning professor for her excellence in teaching.

Amid her professional growth as a law professor, she decided to explore her musical and creative talents. While teaching, she thus began collaborating with her aunt, Vietnamese musician and VietFace TV news anchor, HaDo BichPhuong. She started her journey by helping with composition, writing, and production, and gradually evolved into a long-term creative partnership. Over time, Samantha Dang contributed to the production of 13 albums, including Roses of Humanity (2025), an instrumental project honouring the lives lost during and after the Vietnam War. The album exudes the purity of traditional Vietnamese instruments with contemporary arrangements. The album’s submission for Grammy consideration showcased professional execution. She also co-produced Alana Rich’s pop single, “The Thrill,” which was featured on GrungeCake and co-wrote part of the lyrics for Deuandra T. Brown’s spoken word single, “Dancing in the Dark.” Both of which were also submitted for Grammy consideration. She now looks forward to writing and producing several projects for Grammy consideration in 2026 with HaDo, Deuandra, Alana, and many others.

Despite making progress across industries, Samantha Dang has also been vocal about the structural challenges women face, particularly in decision-making spaces. Her experiences of being sidelined, sometimes literally removed from narratives, made her more resolute in standing up for women. Today, her work across law, education, and music reflects a disciplined refusal to compromise standards. Her philanthropic work reflects her empathy and a strong vision to give back through the ‘Boss Babes Foundation,’ focusing on advancing Human Rights Education and Anti-Human Trafficking policies. Beyond this, she has completed 15 marathons and is a certified Artificial Intelligence, Anti-Human Trafficking, and Human Rights Consultant, as well as, a Telecommunications & Government Relations Manager. Samantha currently serves as the President of Final Bow Entertainment, overseeing creative development, production strategy, and Public Relations.

Samantha Dang envisions continuing to work as a music producer, co-writer, and entertainment executive, and to bridge her legal expertise, cultural storytelling, and independent music production.
